DESIGN.
ENGINEERING.

OUR TEAM OF EXPERIENCED DESIGN ENGINEERS HAVE A BROAD RANGE OF EXPERIENCE AS WELL AS MANUFACTURING AND MATERIALS KNOWLEDGE THAT CAN BE APPLIED TO A WIDE RANGE OF PROJECTS. WE PRIDE OURSELVES ON EFFICIENCY AND NOWHERE ELSE IS THIS MORE EVIDENT THAN OUR DESIGN PHILOSOPHY. WE TAKE CLIENT’S VISIONS AND TURN THEM INTO A REALITY USING OUR IN-HOUSE CAPABILITIES AS WELL AS USING OUR TRUSTED PARTNERS AND SUPPLY CHAIN TO ENSURE A COMPLETE SOLUTION FROM CONCEPT TO ROBUST MANUFACTURING DRAWINGS.

CONCEPT SCHEMING.

The first stage of any design project is to fully understand all the operating conditions and fundamental requirements of a project. We work with our customers to not only listen to their requirements but also ask relevant questions that may not be obvious from the outset that will benefit the process further down the line.

We can them produce a variety of initial concepts that fit the brief, at this point we can present collectively decide the concept(s) we will progress.

TOPOLOGY OPTIMISATION.

A design specification should have quantifiable output requirements. This could be cost, mass, stiffness, volume or a whole host of other performance criteria.

We use topology optimisation in house at the start of a design process which gives us an advantage when it comes to efficient design. We can utilise the capability of cutting-edge software to firstly ensure that the product output requirements are feasible, but also to steer us in the right direction on how to achieve those targets.

This not only produces results that you might never have got to with the traditional iterative design process, but it can also reduce the time it takes to get from concept to finished design, with less iterations. This software is the bedrock of our efficient design ethos.

3D CAD MODELLING.

Using the latest 3D modelling software, we can turn concept designs and optimisation outputs or retopology models into a manufacturable component in 3D form.

This software is central to our design process and enables us to communicate our designs in terms of manufacturing but also 3D representations when creating photorealistic 3D renders to be used for product review or marketing purposes.

Additionally, we use specialist software for working with 3D mesh’s often associated with 3D scanned components.

Another useful application is to create assembly instruction videos to be used as a visual aid during production.

RETOPOLOGY.

During the structural topology optimisation phase of a design, a mesh-based result is produced that represents the ideal structure for the input load case used. However, this mesh-based output is not always easy to reproduce in traditional CAD software packages resulting in geometry that does not fully represent the ideal geometry.

Whilst we would always maintain that a designer will almost always need to deviate from the optimisations ideal to accommodate all product design specifications, it is beneficial to use mesh-based modelling techniques to produce large parts of the geometry. Using the latest modelling methods, we can generate geometry that is closer to the initial optimisation output which saves time iterating the design in CAD and also produced a lighter component in less time.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES.

TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION

Using a combination of the above software and techniques we can produce invaluable technical documentation to go with a product design. These can include videos to aid assembly or for training, work instruction sheets with visual aids, reconditioning help sheets, design standards and many more.

2D ASSEMBLY DRAWINGS

2D installation or assembly drawings can be created to aid production, a spares sheet, a refurbishment process or just a quick look product specification sheet.

2D MANUFACTURING DRAWINGS

Creating 2D manufacturing drawings to the highest standard with a right first-time mindset. Based on decades of experience working with a wide span of manufacturing techniques and suppliers we can create manufacturing drawings with appropriate tolerances and tolerance schemes that are fit for purpose.
